Fwd: [visionlist] Journal of Vision: Methods

Effective today, Journal of Vision invites submissions to a new
section of the journal: Methods. Until now, Journal of Vision  has
largely excluded reports of methods, focusing instead on articles
reporting new data or theory. But the increasingly technical nature of
vision science, the need for an open access venue for description of
substantial new technical developments, and the unique capabilities of
Journal of Vision for publication of code and demonstrations, has
convinced us of the value of publishing methods reports in the Journal
of Vision. We believe that the addition of Methods will increase the
significance of the Journal of Vision as a critical publication venue
in vision science.

Scope

The Methods section of the Journal of Vision invites descriptions of
new methods, tools, and analyses in vision science.

Articles should describe substantial advances rather than incremental
improvements in existing methods.
The methods described should serve a broad or important purpose within
vision science.
We encourage submission of auxiliary materials, such as computer code
or online demonstrations that implement or demonstrate the methods.
Articles that primarily report new data or theory should not be
submitted to the Methods section.
The procedures for review and acceptance of Methods reports will be
the same as for regular articles. We will apply our usual criteria of
significance, originality, clarity and overall quality. Papers not
meeting these standards may be rejected without review.
Articles intended for the Methods section should be clearly designated
as such, both in any accompanying documents and in the online
submission process.
An Editor may recommend to an author that a submission be moved to or
from the Methods section.
Methods reports will be clearly separated from regular articles in the
Table of Contents.
Any commercial interest by an author in the methods described should
be clearly stated in the cover letter and in the acknowledgments.
Commercial interests are not a bar but they may be considered during
review for publication. Refer to ARVO's Commercial Relationships
Policy for more detailed information.
